Did I really just move to Mexico?

My alarm went off at 2:15 this morning. I'm not really sure why I even in set it because I had barely slept since I got in bed. I dragged myself out from under the covers, but a sense of dread and fear soon draped over me instead. What in the world had I signed up for? This morning was the first time it really felt real. Sure, I had told everyone I knew I was going and had already paid a deposit, but it never really in set in. I mean I was leaving all my family, everything familiar and comfortable, not to mention a job where my boss loved me. Someone remind me again why I'm giving all this up? It seemed every mile from the hotel was filled with panic rather than excitement. What if I hate it there? What if I'm a horrible teacher? What will I do if, no when, I get way way too homesick?

Regardless of my reservations, I checked in my bags and headed for boarding gate. I cried like a toddler being left at preschool for the first time when I left my parents at the security gate. All these unknowns had fried my nerves. What was I thinking claiming I was so adventurous and free spirited? All I wanted to do was go home. But nevertheless, I pressed on. We made it through passport control and customs with no issues, and before I knew it, I was standing in front of Casa Vilasanta, my new home for at least the next 4 weeks. It was the most colorful, shiny thing on the street; hopefully the hostel was as nice on the inside as the outside advertised. Our air conditioner was being worked on in our room, but other than that, this place is beautiful. Very spatial and Spanish. We were here only an hour and we met one of our neighbors and our first friend, Frank. Living up to every stererotype, Frank is a redheaded Irishman who co-owns a bar here. He was so nice and welcoming, and even took a few hours to show us around the city and give us the scoop on which restaurants were edible and which hang outs had the good bands. Frank is absolutely hilarious, and made us very comfortable. We parted ways with the Dublin native and went further into town to check out the University Square. It's absoultely beautiful! The architecture is so amazing. We wandered a while, but headed back home about 7:30. Jade and I took it about 2 hours to unpack all our clothes! (Oh, and the air is working wonderfully now.) I'm exhausted and headed to bed, but I'll leave you with some pictures we snapped today. Overall, I'm happy I'm here. Let's just hope it stays that way.
